I have received many requests over the last year to explain how and why we created our SlingBoard products, so please allow me to use this forum to share a response to those questions.
The basis for creating our SlingStick product was the glaring need we identified for innovation. One of my partners brought me a first-generation land paddle several years ago to try out for the first time. At first try I loved the concept as I found skateboarding or longboarding much more enjoyable when I was able to keep both feet on the board. Further I found it to be an excellent exercise that gave someone the opportunity to really hit the muscles of the upper body (back, arms, shoulders…) in a way that was not only aerobic but also muscle building. This to me seemed like the perfect way to achieve that “rower’s body” without having to get on the water and purchase all the gear needed to participate in rowing. There are so many options out there and available to get a nice cardiovascular workout that focused on the lower body such as running, jogging, or biking, but nothing that offered the same intensity focused on the upper body (except rowing which required getting in the water if at all possible) but this notion of land paddling changed all of that. Starting at a point where the land paddle was simply a wooden dowel with a rubber ball on the end (acting as the foot) we found the activity to be in its infancy. We quickly learned that jamming a hard land paddle into the ground over and over created a jarring impact on the joints the same way that a distance runner experiences in his or her knees and ankles after a long race. Over time we were certain that the impact created there would be damaging to the shoulders, elbows, and wrists. So we took charge immediately to eliminate that impact. In the process we identified the power band system as the most effective and cost-effective way to not only shed that impact from that activity but to return the users power back to them making the whole activity more efficient and more fun! Once we honed the Power Response technology in our SlingStick it was able to return 3X the users power, that means you may cruise along and do one third of the work or fly at 3X your natural land paddling speed once you get comfortable with the motion. These innovations led to the creation of our SlingStick and our contribution to the evolution of the sport!
For the SlingBoard it was more of a childhood fantasy that led us to that creation. Growing up I always loved to skateboard but felt it was so limiting in what one could safely do, given the hard-little urethane wheels that were commonly used on them. Since then products with larger wheels (like mountainboards) have come to market offering a little more utility but nothing had yet fulfilled my desire for a true all terrain board that could go anywhere that a bicycle could. So we set out to bring the best attributes from a bicycle, paddleboard, and skateboard together into something new that broke through all the limitations of a convention skateboard. Unlike a skateboard the SlingBoard’s 12” air filled wheels allow you to roll over grass, dirt, pavement or the transitions between them. Unlike a mountainboard our SlingBoard has a custom drop that brings the rider down to a nice low control height like a conventional skateboard does, it also uses wheels that work as well on the pavement as they do on the sand where a mountainboard just feels sluggish with its wide off-road wheels on the pavement. Finally, we designed the deck to be wide enough so that the rider could stand with both feet facing forward (a true SUP stance) with that the paddling exercise may be performed evenly on both sides of the body. All these elements combined led us to the creation of our SlingBoard and what we call the evolution of board sports! We thank websites like https://awesomestuff365.com/ for making the discovery of innovative and creative new products their passion. Highlighting our SlingBoard products here has brought us great recognition for these new creations and our innovations to this exciting new sport. We hope you enjoy them!
